Stored Energy Compressed Air Foam Systems are Compressed Air Foam (C.A.F.S.) at its simplest. Air is provided by pressurized air tanks (usually old scba’s). Foam and water are premixed in the tank and pressurized by the air. Turn a lever and you are ready to go.
Tuff Built Products is proud to offer our ownStored Energy Compressed Air Foam Systems. Our system is new from the ground up, designed with the observations of fire professionals in mind. Here is what we did;
- You told us you want the unit to weigh less. We responded by replacing the normal steel water tank with a fiber composite, for a weight savings on the tank of 40%. Properly done, fiber is both stronger and lighter than steel, so you use less of it. Plus, the holding tank is now non-corrosive. Why is this important? Most manufacturers use a steel water tank, which corrodes over time. To limit the problem of weakening a pressure vessel, they add a ‘corrosion allowance’ to the steel in the tank. In other words, they make the steel thicker. Using a non-corrosive material means your tank is that much lighter.
- You told us you want an easier way to load the foam in the system. In the past this has sometimes meant reaching up with a measuring cup and hoping you get it right. So we added a foam concentrate holding tank and injector. Now you can refill the system multiple times and be sure you get the right amount of foam concentrate every time.
While not as flexible as a full C.A.F.S., the Stored Energy C.A.F.S. is ideal for departments who want to start out with C.A.F.S. in an inexpensive way or to equip an specialized truck (ie provide firefighting capability to a highway rescue). It is also ideal to protect a specific location or piece of machinery, making it very useful in industrial work.
